Receiving SOL and USDC on Solana: the basics before you swap
Confirmations in seconds, tiny fees and one detail many people miss. Here is what to know before you receive SOL or stablecoins on Solana.

Few networks are as fast as Solana for receiving a swap. It produces several blocks per second and fees are a fraction of a cent. That is why SOL and Solana stablecoins are so popular for moving value quickly.
Addresses
A Solana address is a base58 string of 32 to 44 characters. That same address works for receiving SOL and any Solana token, including USDC and USDT on Solana. The most common wallets are Phantom, Solflare and Backpack.
The detail people forget
On Solana, tokens are held in token accounts linked to your address. Creating one of those accounts costs a small amount of SOL as rent. When someone sends you a token, they normally cover that cost. But as soon as you want to send tokens yourself, you will need some SOL for fees. Always leave a little SOL in any wallet that holds Solana tokens.
USDC on Solana or on Ethereum
It is the same Circle dollar. On Solana it is cheaper and faster to move. On Ethereum more DeFi apps accept it. On Swapea both are listed with the network in the name, so you always know which one you will receive.

Questions
Why does my wallet ask for SOL to receive USDC?
On Solana, every token account needs a small SOL deposit as rent. The sender usually pays it when creating that account, but keeping some SOL in your wallet saves you trouble when you want to move your tokens later.
How long does a swap to SOL take?
The Solana side confirms in seconds. The total time depends mostly on the coin you send.
