USDT on TRC20, ERC20 or BEP20: which network is right for you
The same dollar on three different roads. Fees, speed and the mistake that loses stablecoins for good.

Tether issues USDT on many blockchains. To you it is a dollar. To the network it is a completely separate token on a completely separate chain. Picking the wrong one is the most common way to lose stablecoins, so it is worth two minutes.
The three you will see most
- TRC20 (Tron). The most used route for everyday transfers. Low fees and confirmations in about a minute. Addresses start with T.
- ERC20 (Ethereum). The original and the most widely accepted. Network fees rise when Ethereum is congested, so it suits large amounts better than small ones. Addresses start with 0x.
- BEP20 (BNB Chain). Low fees and fast blocks. Its addresses also start with 0x and are identical to Ethereum addresses.
The mistake to avoid
Ethereum and BNB Chain share the same address format. A wallet will happily accept a 0x address whichever network you choose. If you send USDT BEP20 to an address that only watches Ethereum, the coins land on a chain that wallet does not look at. With your own wallet, adding the network is often enough to see them again. With an exchange deposit address, usually not.
The rule is simple: choose the network first, on both sides, and make sure they match.
How Swapea helps
Every stablecoin is listed with its network in the name, for example USDT TRC20 or USDT BEP20, never just USDT. When you paste a receiving address, we check that it matches the chosen network and warn you before creating anything. A Tron address in an Ethereum field is caught instantly.
Which one to choose
For small and medium transfers, TRC20 is usually the cheapest and the most widely accepted by exchanges and services. For DeFi on Ethereum, you need ERC20. If your wallet is on BNB Chain, BEP20 keeps fees low. Compare them on the USDT TRC20 page or swap straight from USDT to Monero.
Questions
Can I send USDT TRC20 to an ERC20 address?
No. They are different blockchains. Tron addresses start with T and Ethereum addresses with 0x, so the format usually stops you, but always choose the network on both sides.
Can I send USDT BEP20 to an ERC20 address?
The address is identical, and that is exactly the danger. The coins arrive at that address, but on BNB Chain. If the wallet behind it supports BNB Chain, you can recover them, but an exchange deposit address often cannot.
